Home What's On? Find the current Squadron Diary Here! Holmfirth ATC meet on both Monday and Friday Evenings from 7pm - 9.30pm at the Cadet Centre, Thongsbridge. Cadet Forces Unite for Common Cause
Tuesday 24th February saw an important point in the Squadron's future history as 1466 Squadron ATC and Thongsbridge Detachment Army Cadet Force became affiliated with the Royal British Legion. This is an agreement which will see the Squadron attending British Legion events, and show a special relationship on Rememberance Sunday parades.
As the spring enters, we see a new change of roles at 1466 Squadron. Flight Lieutenant Neil Tindall RAF VR(T) has given way to Flying Officer (soon to be Flight Lieutenant) Kirsty Piccavey as the Squadron's Commanding Officer. Fg Off Piccavey has recently attended her Senior Officers course at RAF Cranwell in order to prepare her to take on the role of OC 1466.
One unfortunate restriction of the ATC is the age range. Many members of the squadron have served for a very long spell, and as much as many would like to continue to be cadets they choose to make the transition to staff on Squadron. Flt Sgt Froudarakis is a prime example, as he is just coming to the end of of 7 years in the Corps. Fortunately for the Squadron he will be remaining on Squadron, taking on the responsibility of training. Below George is shown in his last Air Experience Flight at RAF Church Fenton.
Funding is also provided via our Squadron Civilian Committee which is comprised of parents of Cadets and other volunteer members within the local commmunity. We are currently looking for new members to join in with fundraising which is a huge part of achieving the opportunity for Cadets to take part in enjoyable activities. Full training is provided and more information about the role can be found via this link.
Of course, it will not be long until the Easter Camp season, and bids have been made on behalf of the Squadron for a camp at RAF Valley between the 1st and 8th of April. Cadets spend a week at an RAF Station which gives an incredible snapshot of life in the RAF. This is a great activity to take part in, as it is heavily subsidised and provides the chance to enjoy activities that would otherwise be very hard to take part in in Civilian life.
